Attachments let you give the AI concrete reference material when describing your app. Instead of explaining a design in words, you can attach a screenshot, mockup, or spec document and let the AI see exactly what you have in mind. Attachments work on both the home screen prompt and in any follow-up message inside the builder.

How to attach files

Use the Attach button

Below the prompt text field on the home screen (or in the chat input inside the builder), click the paperclip Attach button. A file picker opens where you can select one or more files from your Mac.

Drag and drop

Drag files from Finder directly onto the prompt input area. The border highlights in blue when a drop is detected. Release to attach the files.

Paste from clipboard

Copy a file in Finder (or copy an image to your clipboard from another app), click into the prompt field, and paste with ⌘V. 10x reads the clipboard and adds any compatible files as attachments automatically.
Attached files appear as small chips below the text field, each showing the filename and a small icon. Click the × on any chip to remove that attachment before submitting.

Supported file types

Attaching a screenshot or mockup of the app you want to build is one of the most effective ways to get a first build that matches your vision. The AI uses the visual reference to inform layout, color, and component choices.

Attachment limits

To keep things running smoothly, 10x enforces limits on what you can attach per message:
  • Maximum number of files — you can attach up to a set number of files per message. The Attach button disables automatically when you reach the limit.
  • Maximum total size — the combined payload of all attachments per message has a size cap. If you exceed it, 10x shows an error and asks you to remove a file before sending.
These limits may change as the product evolves. If you hit a limit, try attaching fewer files or reducing image dimensions before re-attaching.
Very large image files can slow down the AI’s response. If you’re attaching screenshots or mockups, standard resolution exports work better than high-DPI or uncompressed originals.

Attachments in follow-up messages

You can attach files to any message inside the builder — not just the initial prompt. This is useful when you want to show the AI a design reference mid-build, share an updated spec, or point to an existing screenshot for comparison. The same file picker, drag-and-drop, and paste methods work in the chat input inside the builder workspace.
